The Commission Process

What is a Commissioned painting?

This is where you would like a painting with your own choice of subject, but in the style of the artist. You choose the size and subject matter. You get an original fine art painting, in which you shared creative control.

What is the price of a commissioned painting?

Usually the price is about 20% higher than other paintings of the same size. This accommodates the additional communication, the contract and the reprioritization of other work. Ultimately the price depends on the size needed.

How do we begin?

We talk! Please fill out the form below. You would need to assemble reference material, then we would discuss size, price, deadline, composition, framing. You make a 50% non-refundable deposit to cover the materials and work.

Will you paint anything I want?

No, not anything; the material has to fall within my path forwards, in other words something that is within my choice of material. The style of painting is already established by my existing work.

What happens next?

This depends on how long the commission wait list is. So there may be a delay, but then work begins. I provide weekly updates on progress. You get to provide feedback if you wish. When the work comes to an end, you sign off on the work, and it is left to dry and then varnished. You pay the remaining 50% and the work is delivered.

If there is a change requested, within reason, it will be made.
